Brighton Beach Sea Smoke

Brighton Beach Sunrise

When I heard about the sub-zero temperatures sweeping across the state this week, I decided it would be a good time to venture out for some early morning photos along the shore of Lake Superior. I got up, dressed and out long before dawn and headed for Brighton Beach, just up the shore from Duluth. With the temperatures hovering around -30 with windchill, the temperature difference between the air and the lake water whipped up quite a wall of sea smoke. I was happy snapping away, while the sun seemed to rise much slower than usual, veiled by the wall of dancing fog.
